Seven species of sea (or marine) turtles grace our ocean waters. A migratory species that come ashore only to bask or nest. Turtles are sought after for their eggs, meat, skin and shells and suffer from poaching, habitat destruction, and accidental capture, known as bycatch, in fishing gear. Nearly all species of sea turtles are now classified as endangered, with three of the seven species being critically endangered. WWF-India is committed to stopping the decline of sea turtles and working to recover the species.
